Throughout his/her career, he/she has consolidated his/her specialization in three key areas of historical-artistic heritage:

  • Religious Imagery and Polychrome Sculpture: Structural and layer conservation of wood carvings from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
  • Easel Painting (Canvas and Panel): Treatment of weakened supports, physicochemical varnish removal processes, and distinguishable chromatic reintegration.
  • Historic Movable Heritage: Restoration, consolidation, and remediation of historic woodwork and period furniture.

His professional career is distinguished by the trust placed in his judgment by both public administrations and ecclesiastical institutions, primarily within the Canary Islands:

Conservation in Institutions and Museums

Municipal Museums and Public Collections (e.g., Arucas):

  • In charge of the project for the restoration and enhancement of multiple works of art, notably the recovery of pieces by the renowned artist and "Favorite Son" of the city, Manolo Ramos.

  • Intervention, stabilization and treatment of the movable heritage from the beginning of the 20th century kept in the permanent room of Arucas Municipal Museum and other local public spaces.

Restoration of Religious Imagery and Ecclesiastical Heritage

He has worked on significant devotional and historical pieces belonging to the clergy and parish churches, applying principles of minimal intervention:

  • Virgin of Candelaria (La Orotava): Comprehensive restoration of the polychrome wood carving created by the renowned sculptor Ezequiel de León Domínguez (c. 1960), located in the Parish Church of San Lorenzo Mártir.
  • Saint Paul the Apostle (La Orotava): Restoration and consolidation work on the historical image located in the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Parish of San Diego de Alcalá).
  • Crucified Christ (18th century - Santa Cruz de Tenerife): Structural and polychromy consolidation of this important Baroque-era piece.
  • Saint Bartholomew (Luján Pérez Workshop): Conservation work on this sculpture, attributed to the school of the most distinguished sculptor of the Canarian Baroque.
  • Holy Sepulchre and Recumbent Christ (Telde): Conservation work on this notable processional ensemble from Holy Week in the Canary Islands, comprising a Neo-Gothic piece dating from the late 19th century.

All of Isidro Larizgoitia Masa's professional practice is governed by international restoration regulations and charters (Venice Charter, Florence Charter and the guidelines of the E.C.C.O. - European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers' Organisations):

  • Scientific Rigor: Diagnosis based on pre-treatment physical and chemical examinations.

  • Reversibility: Exclusive use of stable materials that can be removed in the future without damaging the original.

  • Minimal Intervention: Limit interventions to the minimum necessary to ensure the physical stability of the piece, while always respecting the passage of time and the work's historical patina.
